When I was in 7th grade, my dyslexia was so severe that I could not understand the thoughts in my brain because they moved too fast. Ms. Hunsucker was the first person to be able to break down those thoughts in a way that I could fully comprehend. The way she approaches each student with empathy and warmth has allowed her to transform my life and the lives of many of my peers.

I have known Caitlin Hunsucker for approximately four years in her role as a teacher at The Key School in Asheville, NC and subsequently as a friend. Caitlin is one of the reasons we moved across the country for dyslexia remediation. Not only is she a fabulous individual - her teaching style with my daughter who learns a little differently has been a lifesaver. Caitlin is an expert at the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading and other subjects. She is a caring, patient and energetic listener - which are three of the most essential components to be a great teacher. I would recommend Caitlin for any type of teaching position with children as she is clearly serving in her ideal career.

My son was just turning 12 when we discovered the depth of his learning struggles. Ms. Hunsucker [Caitlin] began working with him over the summer to prepare him for the transition to a school that focused on dyslexia. Her work with my son was amazing. She gave him the Orton-Gillingham foundation that he needed to not only be successful at the school, but to begin to have confidence in himself again. She is an encouraging and positive tutor who helps her students realize that they can excel. Ms. Hunsucker did an excellent job of working with a middle-aged student who was still writing on a 2nd or 3rd grade level and prepared him to be a successful 6th grader. So, when we began looking for a tutor the following summer to continue the learning process, Ms. Hunsucker was not only my first choice, but my son’s as well.

My daughter was fortunate enough to be under the academic care of Caitlin for two years. Those years were transformational because Caitlin teaches from a place that is centered and founded in self esteem. Caitlin authentically highlights all that IS working for your child to get them in a zone of confidence to prepare for learning. From that place my daughter was able to do things that feel like a miracle to me now when I compare it against the place we were in before. My daughter can now prepare presentations, give speeches, do homework and projects independently, stay organized, and most importantly can now advocate for herself about what she needs. I spent almost every parent invited event in tears watching my girl do things that used to feel impossible for her. It wasn't her job to do it, but Caitlin role modeled, mentored, and at times mothered my child. She is incredible.

Ms. Hunsucker has been instrumental in my daughter’s progress with reading and study strategies. She created engaging lessons and has a vested interest in her students. She is the type of teacher any student would be fortunate to have.

I worked with Ms. Hunsucker [Caitlin] for two years, and she has been absolutely amazing. Before having her in my life, I was having a really hard time academically and emotionally. Looking back at that, I have grown tremendously not only mentally but also academically. She has taught me so many skills that I will use for the rest of my life. I owe a huge thank you to her because I don’t know where I would be without her.

My son Brodie was fortunate work with Ms. Hunsucker [Caitlin]. Not only was she able to encourage him to begin to put real effort into his work, but she was always there to help him navigate problems in other classes and social situations and to begin to take real responsibility for his actions. The influence she had on Brodie was not only subjective as he began to complete tasks on time and to read on his own, but was also reflected in marked improvement in standardized test scores. Her influence on Brodie's development will continue during high school as she really helped to establish a good foundation for efficient learning processes. There are only a few teachers from primary education that are remembered throughout adulthood, but Ms. Hunsucker will be at the top of the list for Brodie. Thanks for everything, Caitlin!
